Indigenous Book Club

Yukon Public Libraries presents author Richard Van Camp

Presented by Whitehorse Public Library and the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.

The Indigenous Club is a co-production of Whitehorse Public Library and the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. This free program invites indigenous and non-indigenous participants to read works by indigenous authors and then come together to discuss themes and ideas. 

Richard Van Camp will be in conversation with facilitator Stephanie Joe. This event includes a film screening of Inkwo for When the Starving Return.

Featured book: BEAST (2024, Douglas and McIntyre) by Richard Van Camp. Print and digital copies of the book are available at Whitehorse Public Library (honour system). Please return the physical book copy of BEAST to the Whitehorse Public Library drop box once you have finished with it. It is not necessary to read the book in order to attend the discussion.

Inkwo for When the Starving Return (2024, 18 minutes, animation) is about a future haunted by monstrous beings where a gender-shifting warrior must harness ancestral medicine (Inkwo) to defend their community and restore balance to a fractured world. 

In person only event. All welcome. Seating first come, first served. Free. Doors open 6:30 pm, Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre Multipurpose Room.

A selection of the authors books will be on sale.
